Tangent Collective
(founded in 2012 in Tāmaki / Auckland, Aotearoa / New Zealand)
Tangent has a history of advocating for the insertion of photo-filmic practice into local contemporary art discourse. Through processes of peer review and feedback Tangent Collective has encountered, informed and gathered together work by emerging and established artists; curated exhibitions of this work, made films, produced publications, and staged artist talks, presentations and workshops.
Tangent aim to be connectors, conduits, active makers and curators in the space of lens-based imaging.
The collective operates in, and values, an open and expanded field of photographic imaging. With a purpose to explore new models for action and engagement, audience and output. Tangent Collective are artists, curators, directors, educators, filmmakers, sound recordists, photographers and publishers.
Tangent Collective are: Caryline Boreham, David Cowlard, Anton Maurer, Becky Nunes & Marc Thompson.
This short documentary charts some of the key moments in the history of the photo book in Aotearoa / New Zealand.
