Lung is one of a series of short form videos that explore the architecture and urban fabric of Auckland, New Zealand. Shot with an iPhone 5, repetition and looping is used to focus attention on the habitual, tactile appropriation of buildings; the way that we get to know our cities and built environment by moving through them, seeing them at different times of the day, in different light and weather conditions and most of all by inhabiting them.
The Auckland City Hospital building was designed by the architectural practice Jasmax and completed in 2003. The atrium offers a pace and rhythm of use that is both the result of the activities of Auckland’s main public hospital yet sits apart as a slower space of meeting and restfulness
