MOVING SPACES SYMPOSIUM & FILM SCREENING, 22-23 SEPT, 2017
Moving Spaces was an interdisciplinary symposium organized by David Cowlard that brought together academics, practitioners and researchers to address the expanded field of architectural filmmaking.
The symposium discussed how various forms of architecturally focused moving image, from feature films through to animated gifs, have started to create new discourses and methods of reportage and explored the possible implications for narrative strategies, critical engagement and design within architectural discourse.
The keynote speaker for the symposium was Santiago based architectural photographer and filmmaker Cristobal Palma (Estudio Palma). Palma’s film work was presented at the Chile Pavilion at the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale: CANCHA. In 2013 his film Piling Up won ‘Best Architecture Short Film’ at ArqFilmFest in Santiago, Chile.
Symposium Speakers: Andrew Denton (Dir. App Lab, Auckland University of Technology); Chris Brown + Dawid Wisniewski (Senior Visualisers, Warren & Mahoney, Auckland); Prof. Thomas Mical (Head of School, School of Art and Design, Auckland University of Technology)
Filmmakers: Steve Carr, Cinecity, David Cowlard, Monica Kwon, Ainslie Murray, Jessica O’Reilly
Moving Spaces was made possible by funding from Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design.
